Beyond iconic, this masterfully creepy and campy grand guignol is one of the most notorious of all horror films, even 60 years after its release. At a time when Hollywood legends Bette Davis and Joan Crawford had started to become “box office poison” and begun taking out personal ads in the newspaper for work, Robert Aldrich gathered the two rivals together to not only resurrect their flagging careers, but create the subgenre of “Hag Horror”. Davis and Crawford star as sisters, one a washed-up child Vaudeville star and the other an injured but legendary Hollywood star in her own right. Cooped up together in their Hancock Park home, drink, delusion, and jealousy drives the unhinged Jane to attempt to rid herself of her invalid sibling and reclaim her place in the spotlight.
