In Albert Lamorisse’s fantasical Parisian adventure The Red Balloon, a young boy discovers a stray balloon, which seems to have a mind of its own, on the streets of Paris. The two become inseparable, yet the world’s harsh realities finally interfere. Abbas Kiarostami’s magnificently vibrant Colors is a picture-book essay about the range of hues that brighten our world has the air of a delightfully playful formalistic exercise.
