One of the most eye-popping musicals of the golden era, this surreal dazzler is what you get when you mix Busby Berkeley, Carmen Miranda, and Technicolor – an absolute feast for the eyes replete with human kaleidoscopes, enormous bananas and tons of fun! A WWII era frivolity focusing on the joys that song and dance can see us through the worst of times, this stunner was Berkeley’s first foray into color and his magnum opus of jaw-dropping musical numbers, costumes and set-pieces. As a soldier departs to the Pacific for duty, he’s caught between two women, the one his family wants him to marry and the brassy showgirl he’s in love with. Throw in the iconic Carmen Miranda, the legendary Benny Goodman and his orchestra, and dozens of women decked out in fruit and you’ve got a musical that is equally for the kiddos, the cinephiles, and the drag queens!
