Vidiots is thrilled to welcome the iconic director Penelope Spheeris for a conversation and special screening of her raw and unfiltered documentary trilogy The Decline of Western Civilization in partnership with Cinema Eye Honors.
At the 2024 Cinema Eye Honors, Penelope Spheeris’ The Decline of Western Civilization Trilogy was recognized with the Legacy Award, which recognizes films that embodies the Cinema Eye mission statement of recognizing and honoring exemplary craft and innovation in nonfiction film as well as being a film that has inspired a new generation of filmmakers to create art in the nonfiction realm.

The Decline of Western Civilization Part II:
The Metal Years (1988, 93 min)
An exploration of the heavy metal scene in Los Angeles, with particular emphasis on glam metal. It features concert footage and interviews of legendary heavy metal and hard rock bands and artists such as Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Megadeth, Motörhead, W.A.S.P., and Ozzy Osbourne.
Before the screening Penelope Spheeris will be presented her Legacy Award and join independent film programmer and consultant Rachel Rosen for an on-stage conversation.
