Turn off your Apple 2C and get ready for some obsolete technology on celluloid as this month’s 16mm foray into celluloid weirdness delves into vintage animation, educational films, trippy trailers, antiquated advertisements, Sci Fi rarities and more from the 1950s through the 1980s heralding the “coming” world of robots, time and space travel, and the home computer explosion. From the poetic symphony of a robotic factory, to a lost Mid-Century promotional cartoon about the monopolization of plastics, to a dancing CPU chorus line, and more oddities and surprises you won’t be able to see anywhere else, this program is a TRIP – back to the future. Slightly ridiculous and definitely out of date, this compendium of vintage technology and imagined futures will be screened entirely on 16mm film with prints from the Sweet 16mm collection as well as the legendary archives of Oddball Films and A/V Geeks.

Sweet 16mm is a monthly screening of short films that demonstrate the special magic of the medium of 16mm. Ranging monthly from experimental, animation, educational, promotional, and ephemeral, we seek to spread the gospel of 35mm’s cheap and portable cousin and a physical media often overlooked and underrated. Sit in the room with the projector and behold the magical analog obscurities that we dig out monthly on glorious 16mm celluloid!
