It’s that time of year again! Love is in the air and romance is on everyone’s mind. Romance and… SEX! But before you spend your Valentine’s Day in amorous pursuits, we’re cracking open the 16mm vaults to bring you a program of scandalous seventies sex ed primers, antiquated VD scare films, vintage burlesque, and even a hundred-year old pornographic cartoon all on 16mm film! Films include WWII Navy training film The Ship of Shame (1942), as well as Eveready Harton in the notorious pornographic animation Buried Treasure (1929), the laughably frank A Family Talks About Sex (1977), and some sexy stripteases and soundies from yesteryear. Step back in time and learn all about the birds and bees from the days of yore – entirely on 16mm celluloid.

Featuring:

The Ship of Shame (B+W, 1942)

Watch out for loose women at the dance hall, soldier, you might miss your furlough before you ship out!  A WWII army training film on the horrors of venereal disease. The USS 733 docks in a port where “9 out of the 10 of the easy pickins” are all carrying one STI or another. As soldier after soldier comes down with the “syph” and the “clap,” they’re going to have problems taking on the Nazis with all these privates with problems in their privates. Starring a small cavalcade of classic Hollywood bit players and centering on a very watchable narrative, this classic gives you the infectious information without sparing the entertainment value.

*note – contains brief graphic imagery

Buried Treasure (B+W, 1929)

The most notorious pornographic cartoon of all time – and one of the very first. Rumors persist that Max Fleischer (Betty Boop and others), Paul Terry (of TerryToons), and Budd Fisher (Mutt & Jeff) were responsible for this bawdy masterpiece.  This legendary porno cartoon depicts the unlikely adventures of the perpetually aroused Eveready Harton with – among others – a man, a woman, and a cow. You’ll laugh and the guys may even scream!

A Family Talks About Sex (Color, 1977)

As their children are growing, one family (who mysteriously keeps morphing into different people, but with the same names) learns how to talk to their children about sex throughout their childhood and adolescence. What starts with frank words for genitalia and reprimanding fondling in public, turns into discussions on wet dreams, menstruation, pornography, and contraception. Magnificently cringey and massively laughable.
