Get your eyes and ears ready for our latest 16mm installment of celluloid obscurities Rare Notes, a program ranging from the 1920s – 1970s of offbeat musical masterpieces, curiosities, and cartoons. From blues and jazz to funk and prog rock, this smorgasbord of sounds will move you and get you moving! Featuring a rare Elvis Presley television performance from the 1950s, incredibly entertaining Soundies from Fats Waller, Cab Calloway, and others, the only film featuring tragic blues legend Bessie Smith, the haunting St. Louis Blues (1929), nearly forgotten footage of The Georgia Sea Island Singers, a mesmeric excerpt from the extraordinary mini doc Blind Gary Davis, and very sweaty performance footage of Little Richard. Plus, Electric Light Orchestra performs a medley on TV from 1974 (and Jeff Lynne’s hair does not disappoint!), a special visit from the Monkees, more animated musical surprises, and a musicational pre-show for the early birds. Everything screened on 16mm film.
