Vidiots, CAPE, Queer Asian Social Club and PAC Arts are excited to welcome writer/director Alice Wu and actors Lynn Chen and Michelle Krusiec for a screening of the iconic queer rom com Saving Face in honor of its 20th Anniversary and the release of the new Criterion Blu-Ray.

An irresistible queer rom com that crosses boundaries and generations, Alice Wu’s Saving Face revitalizes an age-old genre with heart, passion, and humor. Just as Wil (Michelle Krusiec), a harried young surgical resident, begins a promising romance with the flirtatious dancer Vivian (Lynn Chen), her life is turned upside down when her more traditional Chinese mother (Joan Chen)—unwed and unexpectedly pregnant—moves in with her, forcing both women to confront the generational and cultural barriers that have long troubled their relationship. Both embracing and cleverly subverting rom-com conventions, Wu delivers a bighearted ode to the Chinese American diaspora, and the liberating joy of living one’s truth. Join us as we rediscover this endearing classic on the big screen!

CAPE is the premier non-profit organization creating opportunities and driving change for Asian and Pacific Islander (API) success in Hollywood. We work to shift culture through storytelling to create a better world. For over 30 years, CAPE has fought for API representation in film and television, because what we watch on our screens should reflect the world in which we live and project a better one. CAPE advances representation for APIs in Hollywood through three main verticals: (1) nurturing and engaging creative talent and executive leadership; (2) providing cultural script consulting and talent referrals through the CAPE Database; and (3) championing projects for critical box office and streaming success. Learn more at capeusa.org.

Queer Asian Social Club (QASC) is a digital and in person community organization celebrating, uplifting, and empowering queer and trans APISWAD (Asian/Pacific Islander/Southwest Asian/Desi) voices. Through in person events, like our holiday gathering “Get Warmed,” “Its Reading Rainbow” an all-ages Pride event with the Chinatown LA Public Library, and movie premiere events and q&a’s for Extremely Unique Dynamic, The Wedding Banquet, Egghead and Twinkie, and A Nice Indian Boy. We also are known for our virtual programming that includes mental health initiatives, policy advocacy through panels with leaders in our communities, and conversations with artists in every medium. We pair advocacy, with art, with celebration to provide space for our community to be seen, heard, and protected.

Pacific Arts Movement (Pac Arts) is one of the largest media arts organizations dedicated to celebrating Asian and Asian American stories through film, media, and education. Based in San Diego, Pac Arts is best known for presenting the San Diego Asian Film Festival, now in its 26th year, and empowering the next generation of storytellers through programs like Reel Voices. Through year-round screenings, youth programs, and community partnerships, Pac Arts champions inclusion, cultural equity, and the power of film to spark connection and change.
