Dennis Hopper’s punk rock coming-of-age cult classic, Out of the Blue has stood the test of time as a powerful, grim, subversive, and nihilistic treasure of American independent cinema. Cebe is a teen girl trying to deal with a dad in prison, a mom on drugs, and a complete distaste for society in general. Finding escapism in the punk scene and with a love of Elvis, she tries to alleviate the woes of her home life to no avail. With unflinching subject matter and a shocking ending that ignited audiences, this is a teen movie like no other – and serves as a kind of spiritual sequel to Hopper’s own “Easy Rider.” Official selection: Venice Film Festival-Classics; SXSW, Cannes Film Festival. Not streaming on any platform, you won’t want to miss it.
