Ang Lee’s visually astounding parable achieves a poetic resonance in its deeply moving and awe-inspiring singularity. A zookeeper’s son finds himself the only human survivor of a tragic shipwreck, destined to float adrift in the vast Pacific Ocean with a small menagerie, including a Bengal tiger. The two must negotiate their existence so they both can survive the voyage.
