Vidiots is terrified to welcome back indie legend H.P. Mendoza for a special screening of his wholly original low-budget spectral gem I Am a Ghost in our haunted microcinema!
One part post-modern queer indie horror, one part existential classic, and one part no-budget/high-concept gothic treasure, this haunting tale of a Victorian spirit trapped in a seemingly-endless limbo breathes fresh life into the age-old tradition of ghost stories. During an indeterminable time period, Emily (Anna Ishida), a troubled ghost who died, haunts her own Victorian house every day, wondering why she can’t leave. With the help of Sylvia, (Jeannie Barroga), a clairvoyant hired to rid the house of spirits, Emily is forced into a ‘patient/therapist’ relationship, uncovering disturbing mysteries about her past that may help her move on to ‘the next place’. Over 100 years into the genre of horror films, it’s increasingly rare to find one as singular and original as Mendoza’s haunting indie meditation on life, death, and what lies beyond.
“Brilliant. Like Kubrick, Hitchcock and Bergman combined.” – Tim Sika, San Francisco Film Critics Circle
