Screenwriter: John Cassavetes

Longtime pals Gus, Harry, and Arthur (John Cassavetes, Ben Gazzara, and Peter Falk) are launched head first into a shared midlife crisis after their best friend dies suddenly from a heart attack. Paranoid about their mortality and intent on blowing up their lives to avoid facing their grief, the three embark on a series of increasingly unhinged benders that ultimately test the limits of their friendship. Cassavetes, the preeminent actor’s director, delights in seemingly infinite takes and largely improvised performances from powerhouses Falk and Gazzara. The result is a tragicomedy that unabashedly pries open the male psyche, offering up playfulness and brutality in equal measure.
