Proof that Martin Scorsese can make a movie without blood or four-letter words, Hugo, his lone but exceptional children’s film, conjures a magic not often seen from the director. Set inside Paris’ Gare Montparnasse train station, Hugo follows its eponymous 12-year-old boy through a mystery that involves a robot, silent film director Georges Méliès, and Inspector Gustave Dasté, played by Sasha Baron Cohen. It’s a whirlwind adventure that garners more fans and esteem each year.
