A middle-class British family endures the horrifying Blitz of London during World War II in this mix of nostalgic historical drama and anarchic comedy loosely based on the memories of writer-director John Boorman (Deliverance, Point Blank). While parents Clive and Grace do their best to protect their family and support the British war effort as bombs rain down from the skies at night, their children view all of this destruction as a thrilling adventure and a welcome escape from their humdrum lives. Nominated for five Oscars, Hope and Glory is one of the true masterpieces of 1980s cinema — and since it isn’t available on streaming, you won’t want to miss the chance to see it at Vidiots!
Movie Den is a community initiative generously supported by MUBI and Golden Globe Foundation.
