Vidiots celebrates the legacy of underground filmmaker Paul Morrissey with special screenings of his ultra-trashy, blood-soaked camptacular Flesh for Frankenstein starring Warhol Superstar “Little Joe” Dallesandro and screen icon Udo Kier in the MUBI Microcinema.
You have never seen a Frankenstein like this! With stylistic gore, over-the-top performances, copious and strange sex, and outrageous lines like ‘To know death you must f*&k life in the gallbladder,” Flesh for Frankenstein is one of the strangest genre films ever made and a must-see for any lover of bizarre, obscure, and cult cinema. Within the decadent walls of the Frankenstein mansion, the Baron and his depraved assistant Otto have discovered the means of creating new life. As the Baron’s laboratory begins to fill up with stitched body parts, the Baroness dallies with the randy new manservant, and soon the decadent, permissive household is consumed by an outrageous, bizarre, and hilarious combination of death and dismemberment.
Paul Morrissey was an underground and trash cinema legend. Originally collaborating with Andy Warhol on such films as Chelsea Girls, Morrissey brought character, dialogue, and plot to Warhol’s cinematic experiments before striking out on his own in the mid-1970s. His films defy easy categorization as they employ elements from underground cinema, cinema verité, a drugged-out version of melodrama, improv, and a heavy-reliance on the charisma of his cavalcade of Factory Superstars, including trans-trailblazers Holly Woodlawn, Candy Darling, and Jackie Curtis. Most of his films are not streaming, and certainly not in 3D, so make sure you join us for these special screenings and visit the video store to dive into his weird world of trash.
