Director: Dave Fleischer, Max Fleischer Run Time: 90 min. Format: Digital
Starring: Betty Boop, Koko the Clown, Popeye
Join us for a delightful all-ages program celebrating the classic animated films of Fleischer Studios – the pioneering animation studio run by brothers Dave and Max Fleischer that were the first to introduce sound in animation and inventors of rotoscoping (tracing human movement from film) as well as the originators of Popeye, the first Superman cartoons and of course the most popular female cartoon heroine of all time – Betty Boop. This program includes cartoons from the 1920s and 1930s, lovingly restored from original film elements in 4K spearheaded by Max Fleischer’s granddaughter, Jane Fleischer Reid. Learn about the studio’s influence and history and most importantly enjoy these films the way they were meant to be seen, on the big screen! Plus more antique cartoons including Felix the Cat and everybody’s favorite mouse in his first on-screen appearance.
This community screening is graciously brought to you by NEON.
Doors will open 30 minutes before showtime.
Accessibility Options: Amplified Audio, please see the box office for devices.
Please note that this screening is first-come-first-served, and your RSVP does not guarantee entry. As we are hoping to accommodate as many people as possible, in a time of great need for our community, as such, all free screenings are overbooked to account for no-shows. We recommend an early to on-time arrival, we may not be able to accommodate late entries. We thank you in advance for your patience as we all navigate these complex times together.
