The incredible Anna May Wong stars in this short and satisfying San Francisco revenge thriller! A Chinese-American woman tries to avenge her father and expose an illegal alien smuggling ring. Genuinely suspenseful with an incredible performance from Wong and an excellent supporting cast that includes Buster Crabbe, Charles Bickford, and even Anthony Quinn in one of his earliest screen roles, Daughter of Shanghai truly shines as a multi-layered and sympathetic portrait of the Asian-American experience (albeit through the lens of genre) at a time when yellow face was the norm.
