The legendary Diahann Carroll and James Earl Jones helm this Curtis Mayfield-scored celebration of family and community, directed by the formerly blacklisted John Berry. Carroll – in an Oscar-nominated performance – plays a single mother of six kids in 1970s Harlem hoping her new romance with the garbage man can manage to flourish despite the system being rigged against them. Both a beautiful romantic comedy, and a social-relevant chronicle of Black life – the highs, lows, and everyday moments – this classic of 70s cinema is set to be rediscovered and loved all over again.
