Perry Phillips, an ambitious but awkward mattress store manager in the sleepy town of Nice, California, has a plan: save up, buy the store, and finally win the heart of his childhood crush, Lynette. But when Lynette announces she’s leaving town, Perry panics. Desperate to prove himself, he and his reckless best friend Wyatt concoct a harebrained scheme to “rescue” her younger brother Ryker from a fake kidnapping—only to accidentally pull off a real one.

As Perry scrambles to clean up the mess, his small-town world collides with a crew of low-level criminals, a botched drug deal, and a relentless new sheriff with something to prove. What starts as a misguided romantic gesture spirals into a chaotic, fast-talking crime caper where Perry will have to outwit crooks, cops, and his own terrible decisions—before his entire life goes up in flames.

Equal parts Coen Brothers-style absurdity and heart, California King is a sharp, laugh-out-loud comedy about love, ambition, and just how far one man will go for the perfect happily-ever-after.
