Amarcord presents a coming-of-age story so vibrantly weird, so grotesquely beautiful, it could only have come from the life and mind of master filmmaker Federico Fellini. The movie chronicles one year in a provincial seaside town in Italy during the 1930s, broken into a series of mostly comic vignettes as its citizens pursue their sexual fantasies, deal with the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church, and either obey or rebel against the fascist government of Mussolini. Through it all, adolescent Titta (Bruno Zanin) experiences the dizzying highs and bittersweet lows of growing up. Fellini won his fourth and final Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for this one-of-a-kind gem.
