It’s not often that a sequel film can surpass the original, but Addams Family Values makes a pretty strong case. Boasting one of the most perfectly cast ensembles in cinema history, Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Christina Ricci, Jimmy Workman, Carol Cane, and Carel Struycken return as the titular creepy, cooky family who are threatened by the intrusion of Joan Cusack in a career-best performance as the “graceful, delicate,” and homicidal Debbie Jellinsky. With Wednesday and Pugsley adjusting to being around privileged rich kids at summer camp and Debbie trying to steal the Addams’ fortune, this family-friendly classic is a delightfully campy way to introduce serious themes to even the littlest viewers.
