This gorgeous wuxia epic, directed by martial-arts master King Hu, expertly combines action thrills with a poetic sense of spiritual longing. In Ming Dynasty-era China, female warrior Yang (Hsu Feng) goes on the run to escape death at the hands of an authoritarian government. She hides out in a remote village and falls in love with a lonely artist (Shih Chun), but as the two hatch a plot to fight back against their oppressors, their quest becomes something much greater: not just a chance to battle injustice, but a search for transcendence in romance and warfare. A gorgeous epic, not to missed on the big screen!
