He’s inside me and he wants to take me again! This overtly homoerotic follow-up to one of the greatest horror films of the 1980s took the franchise in strange new directions, but exists in its own sphere of camp and queer reclamation. Instead of haunting teenagers in their dreams – as he does in literally every other film in the series – Freddy Krueger decides he can do more damage by possessing an awkward newcomer and slashing up his schoolmates. With excessive male shower scenes, literal flying balls, S+M undertones, one of the best dancing/unpacking scenes of the 80s, and the pop-gun heard ’round the world, this Kruegerriffic installment isn’t as unnerving as the original or as bad-ass as the third, but it might be the most camptastically entertaining of the whole franchise.
