Julia Reichert: Workers of the World Unite
In her Oscar acceptance speech for American Factory (2020 Best Documentary Feature), filmmaker Julia Reichert said, “Working people have it harder and harder these days, and we believe things will get better when workers of the world unite.”
Reichert, beloved amongst documentary filmmakers as artist, activist, and cherished mentor, died on December 1, 2022. Her acclaimed 50-year career centered on making nonfiction films documenting workers’ rights and women’s rights, while mentoring dozens of emerging filmmakers.
