Vidiots Foundation is looking for a part-time Assistant Video Store Manager to join our team!


We’re a women-founded 501(c)3 non-profit for and by film lovers, filmmakers, and everyone curious about cinema. In June 2023, thirty-eight years after first opening as an alternative video store in Santa Monica, Vidiots reopened at a new home, the historic Eagle Theatre in Northeast Los Angeles. Vidiots’ new home, a nearly-11,000 square foot film exhibition, entertainment, and education space, includes a 271-seat state-of-the-art cinema, Vidiots’ 60,000-title film and media library for rental, and a flexible, state-of-the-art micro-cinema and community space for screenings and a variety of intimate community events, and more.

Vidiots’ Assistant Video Store Manager will be a key member of the Video Store and Marketing teams. The Assistant Video Store Manager will report to and work most closely with Vidiots’ Video Store and Volunteer Director and Vidiots’ Director of Marketing.

What you’ll do:

Work closely with Vidiots’ Video Store + Volunteer Director to:

  • Oversee, assist, and train Vidiots’ team of volunteer video store clerks 
  • Open and prepare the video store for daily operations on designated shift days
  • Perform closing duties on designated shift nights
  • Interact directly with patrons and members to help them find and rent movies
  • Assist in managing patron and member queries and feedback, in person and via email and phone
  • Track and assist in managing overdue rentals
  • Input new and donated physical media titles into Vidiots’ online library system
  • Track requests for titles that should be acquired for the library

What you’ll bring to the table: 

Required Qualifications

  • three (3) to five (5) years of experience in brick-and-mortar customer service/and or retail
  • Comfort capturing high-quality social media content through stills and videos
  • Positive, professional disposition and enthusiasm for developing strong relationships with a wide array of customers, partners, donors, and colleagues both internal and external
  • Deep knowledge of and interest in film history, aesthetics, and contemporary film culture
  • Basic knowledge of and familiarity with film and media distributors and archives
  • Excellent communication and copywriting skills
  • Attention to detail and excellent time management skills 
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint ) and Google Apps, specifically Drive, Docs, Spreadsheets, and Slides, knowledge of Google Adobe Creative Suite. Photoshop a plus
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple teams in a brick-and-mortar, customer-service oriented space

Desired Characteristics and Qualities

  • Desire to work in a customer-service oriented brick-and-mortar space
  • Strong understanding of the importance of physical media 
  • Capacity to balance short-term needs with longer term vision
  • Video store experience a plus
  • Fluent Spanish and/or Tagalog and/or ASL speaker a plus

Work Environment:

  • 20 hours-a-week role with 15 scheduled hours on-site at Vidiots 
  • Must be available weekends
  • Based in L.A. area

Compensation:

  • $20/hr
  • CalSavers retirement program
