Part-Time Video Store + Guest Services Clerk
Vidiots Foundation is looking for a part-time Video Store + Guest Services Clerk to join our team!
Our Video Store + Guest Services Clerks are responsible for providing excellent customer service in our Video Store and adjacent theatre spaces. As essential members of our team, Video Store + Guest Services Clerks support our Front of House Team in our box office, lobby, and theater spaces by facilitating an efficient, welcoming, and organized process for theater and lobby patrons; and in the video store, engage with our patrons and members to assist them in discovering titles from our physical media collection, and by efficiently and accurately performing retail and rental related duties.

What you’ll do:
Video Store
- Present an engaging and welcoming demeanor that sets the tone for customers, staff, and volunteers
- Assist customers and Members to discover and rent titles from Vidiots’ vast physical media collection
- Process rental, merchandise, and ticket transactions
- Assist in the tracking of requests for title additions for library acquisition
- Answer customer questions, concerns, and problems courteously and accurately, directing them to additional appropriate staff members for resolution as needed
- Remain current on membership benefits and regularly promote Vidiots’ Annual Membership options
- Assist patrons with Annual Membership sales and renewals, theater ticket sales, and field other customer and donor questions as needed
- Organize, maintain, and assist in the ongoing streamlining of Vidiots’ online catalog
- Clean and maintain the Video Store and its restroom, storefront, and exterior areas, ensuring excellent organization, presentation, safety, and cleanliness
- Work with Volunteers and Interns assigned to special projects
- Perform additional projects and duties as assigned by the Video Store Director
Box Office + Guest Services
- Support Box Office and Front of House teams as needed including accurately and efficiently selling and scanning tickets, welcoming cinema patrons and accurately answering patron questions
- Support and coordinate screenings and special events needs including event set-up , display of signage, tables, chairs, linens, reserving of seats, and special guest check in assistance
- Assist with will call and special guest list management, including checking identification, distributing tickets to the proper parties, and resolving issues as necessary
- Assist in the fielding and management of patron and member queries and feedback in a courteous, knowledgeable, and timely manner in person, via email, and/or phone
- Provide accurate daily box office reports when requested by Front of House Managers
- Generally support Front of House team as needed including coordinating with FOH Managers in monitoring theater ingress and egress, and food and beverage handling
- Train for and maintain required appropriate certifications for food handling and safety
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe Box Office
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Front of House Managers
Required Qualifications
- Minimum four (4) years of experience in brick-and-mortar customer service/and or retail; theater operations and/or box office operations are a plus
- Must have Evening, Weekend, and Holiday availabilities, with consistent ability to be scheduled according to Vidiots’ needs (individuals without consistent availability should not apply)
- Excellent customer service skills with a positive, kind, calm attitude
- Cash handling experience
- Comfort and ability to work with ticketing systems and POS systems (e.g. Filmbot and Stripe)
- Detail oriented with excellent and effective communication skills
- Deep knowledge of and interest in film history, aesthetics, and contemporary film culture
- Comfort using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Airtable and Google Apps (e.g. Drive, Docs, Spreadsheets)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced brick-and-mortar with multiple teams
- RBS certified in properly and safely serving alcohol on premises
Desired Characteristics and Qualities
- Passionate about building community through social interaction around film and media
- Strong desire to work in a customer-service oriented brick-and-mortar art space
- Strong understanding of the importance of physical media
- Willingness to wear multiple hats and work in a fun and fast-paced environment
- Capacity to balance short-term needs with long term vision
- Fluent Spanish and/or Tagalog and/or ASL speaker a plus
- CPR certified a plus
Work Schedule:
- 20 hrs per week
- On-site at Vidiots
- Scheduled work shifts split between Video Store + Box Office
Compensation:
- $22 per hour
- CalSavers retirement program
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- This position works primarily in an indoor setting with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, and strong visual effects
- Employee will occasionally be required to stand, sit, and stoop
- Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Employee must be able to see in order to operate machinery and tools
- Employee must comply with company and OSHA standard workplace safety protocols
