This thriller, set in 19th Century Paris, is based upon the stage play of the same name by Neal Bell which was adapted from the Emile Zola classic novel Therese Racquin. This debut feature of director Charlie Stratton stars Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), 2-Time Oscar Winner Jessica Lange (Tootsie, Blue Sky, American Horror Story), Shirley Henderson (Bridget Jones’s Diary), Matt Lucas (Little Britain, Bridesmaids), and Mackenzie Crook (original UK series The Office, Pirates of the Caribbean).
Set in the lower echelons of 1860s Paris, Therese Raquin (Olsen), a sexually repressed beautiful young woman, is trapped into a loveless marriage to her sickly cousin, Camille (Felton), by her domineering aunt, Madame Raquin (Lange). Therese spends her days confined behind the counter of a small shop and her evenings watching Madame play dominoes with an eclectic group. After she meets her husband’s alluring friend, Laurent (Isaac), she embarks on an illicit affair that leads to tragic consequences.
