David Bowie stars as an enlightened extraterrestrial in this poetic and stunning work from Nicolas Roeg. Thomas Jerome Newton (Bowie) is an otherworldly visitor who has come to Earth searching for water to save his home planet. Aided by lawyer Oliver Farnsworth, Thomas uses his broad knowledge of advanced technology to create profitable and beneficial inventions. While developing a method to transport water, Thomas meets hotel clerk Mary-Lou (Candy Clark), and begins to fall in love with the beautiful earthling. Just as he is ready to depart from our planet, he is intercepted by the government, threatening his entire plan.
