Directed by the Cuban-born René Cardona, one of the great filmmakers from Mexico’s Golden Age, singular cult classic The Batwoman combines the pop art camp of Adam West’s caped crusader with a dash of stylish Bond intrigue. Maura Monti stars as the titular heroine. A wealthy socialite from the Mexican capital, she also doubles as a horse-riding, underwater exploring, masked wrestling crime fighter. Sporting a cape, cowl, and two-piece, she’s tasked with tracking down who or what is behind a streak of murdered luchadores in postcard-perfect 60s Acapulco. This screening kicks off VIVA CINEMA – a new series at Vidiots focused on newly restored film discoveries from around the world and across time.

4K restoration by Permanencia Voluntaria and Cinema Preservation Alliance with the generous support of Academy Film Archive, Paso del Norte Community Foundation, and FOCINE.
