How did some slip of a girly boy from communist East Berlin become the internationally ignored song stylist barely standing before you? Oh, Hedwig will tell you, in great detail, every facet of her life’s story whether you want her to or not.
This adaptation of John Cameron Mitchell’s off-Broadway classic expands what was originally a simple storytelling performance on stage from the titular Hedwig into a trip that showcases all of her rock and roll excesses as she tries to rebuild everything that was taken from her by any means necessary. She is glam, she is punk, and she is a disasterpiece all while going on a gender journey courtesy of Cameron Mitchell’s reprised performance.
