Free Screening of Sydney Pollack’s Tootsie with host Ryan Marker on Thursday, July 23rd at 7:30 pm
To celebrate the birth month of the late, great Sydney Pollack, Vidiot Ryan Marker will be hosting a free screening of the classic comedy Tootsie. AFI named Tootsie the second funniest American movie of all time behind only Some Like It Hot. From 1982, Dustin Hoffman stars as the iconic Dorothy Michaels (aka Michael Dorsey) who must dress up as a woman to get a job as an actor because he’s pissed off everybody in town as a man.
Nominated for 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Lead Actor for Hoffman, the film also stars Jessica Lange (won the Academy Award for Supporting Actress), Teri Garr (nominated for Supporting Actress), Bill Murray, Charles Durning, Dabney Coleman, George Gaynes, the gorgeous Geena Davis (in her first film), and Sydney Pollack himself as Hoffman’s agent.
Michael Dorsey is a talented actor, but his demanding nature and stubborn temperament have antagonized every producer in New York. Now his agent insists no one will hire him. But Michael needs money – eight thousand dollars to be exact – and to earn it, he’s willing to play the role of a lifetime. Dustin Hoffman stars with Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, Dabney Coleman, Charles Durning, Bill Murray and Geena Davis in director Sydney Pollack’s heart-filled classic that heralded a new era of Hollywood wig-flipping and set a new standard for unpredictable laugh-out-loud comedy.
