L.A. STORY (1991)

Screening followed by Q&A with Director Mick Jackson and moderator Lael Loewenstein

Sunday, November 13th, 5:00pm

On the occasion of L.A. Story‘s 25th anniversary, Vidiots presents a screening of this iconic, beloved, and quintessentially Angelino comedy, followed by a Q&A with director Mick Jackson. From a brilliant script of his own, Steve Martin plays Harris K. Telemacher, a frustrated weatherman emotionally drowning in the shallow end of the L.A. “scene.” When glimmers of meaning and hope begin to reveal themselves to Telemacher through a freeway “traffic condition” sign and a beautiful newcomer, the adventure really begins. Like a good-hearted roast, L.A. Story‘s Tinsel Town critique – hilariously blasting everything from traffic to predictable weather patterns – is also a love letter to our sprawling, idiosyncratic, magical City of Angels. In his four-star review, Roger Ebert hailed L.A. Story as “a light-hearted fantasy that asks us to accept one small possibility, and promises us we may find contentment if we keep an open mind. I was reminded of the films of Jacques Tati, in which, calmy, serenely, an endless series of comic invention unfolds.”

Other notable films include The Bodyguard (Kevin Costner, Whitney Houston), Temple Grandin (Claire Danes) and, of course, the incomparable L.A. Story.
