300: Rise of an Empire

R – 102 min – Action

The sequel to Zach Snyder’s 300 is based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel “Xerxes” and co-written by Snyder. Noam Murro (director of indie comedy Smart People) has put together a cast starring Sullivan Stapleton (Gangster Squad), Eva Green (Casino Royale), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), David Wenham (Lord of the Rings), and Rodrigo Santoro (Lost).

After its victor over Leonidas’ 300, the Persian Army under the command of Xerxes (Santoro) marches towards the major Greek city-states. The Democratic city of Athens, first on the path of Xerxes’ army, bases its strength on its fleet, led by Admiral Themistokles (Stapleton). Themistokles is forced to an unwilling alliance with the traditional rival of Athens, oligarchic Sparta whose might lies with its superior infantry troops, but Xerxes still reigns supreme in numbers over sea and land.
